With December upon us, preparations for Christmas have begun. I love this wonderful stretch of time between Thanksgiving and Christmas, filled with special decorations that come out only once a year, opportunities to catch up with friends and family not seen often enough, and most of all - eager anticipation for Christmas itself. Ethan definitely gets it this year, and has already made a long (and growing by the day) list for Santa which includes, among other things, a green pickup truck, some new pencils, and a live chipmunk. I'm really hoping Santa doesn't make ALL his dreams come true... My little elf helped me take out our Christmas decorations on Monday, finding homes for each and every snowman in my collection. We've started reading Christmas books and listening to Christmas music, all in anticipation of the arrival of the fat man in the red suit (as well as family galore) at the end of this month. It's all so much fun.
One of my favorite holiday traditions when I was a kid was the advent calendar. We had lots of different advent calendars over the years - ones that hung on the walls, little trees you could decorate, standard cardstock ones with pretty pictures under the doors. But we never had an advent calendar quite like the one Noni and Papi gave the boys this year. It is this fantastic thing where each December morning, you get to open a little box with a Playmobil toy inside. And they all come together in this pirate island scene, which will be complete by Christmas Day. Ethan had a blast opening box number one yesterday morning, and bounded out of bed ready for box number two today. I have to say even I was a little excited to see what was in box number two (it was a monkey, if you can't stand the suspense). Here are a few shots from yesterday:
We've also hung all our outdoor lights already, so that Santa is sure to know we are ready and waiting for him to come. Ethan loves turning them on every night, and both boys just stand at the window looking at them. This isn't a great picture, but they just looked so cute peering out at the lights.
We'll finish decking our halls with a tree this weekend, and then it's on to other Christmas-ey activities. There is lots to cram into these next 23 days! And it's all much more magical with babes in tow.

oh my goodness, that face is full of anticipation and is SO cute! I'm going to miss getting a tree this year (especially since we are in the Christmas tree capital of the universe) but will look forward to sharing everyone else's!
Davis wants one of those advent calendars - and, like Melissa, I love Ethan's anticipation face.
Adorable!! It is so much more fun with a little one in tow - Hannah and I put up a few Xmas decorations today (lights and tree have to wait until the weekend when Daddy is around) and she kept opening the back door to say 'hi' to the Santa hanging there. And riding around town is heavenly now as long as it's dark and everyone has their Xmas lights on! Such a fun season!
