I swear I'm not always jetting off on little getaways, leaving my poor motherless children behind. But my recent blog posts might suggest otherwise, huh? When it rains, it pours, and I had the pleasure of getting away for yet another footloose and fancy free weekend, this time with my hubby and a bunch of college friends, attending a wedding in the unbelievably beautiful hills of Malibu. Although I must say that the prospect of flying across the country, missing out on an important family weekend in Waterford, leaving behind a sick boy...left us feeling a little uncertain last week about what we'd gotten ourselves into by deciding to go to this wedding. But flying back yesterday, we both agreed that we were so happy we made the trip, that it had been a blast of a weekend that we were glad to be a part of. Even the long flights weren't so bad - what's the last time we had 7 or 8 uninterrupted hours to just chat, read, or sleep? We very much enjoyed ourselves, and we are uber thankful that Noni and Papi sacrificed their holiday weekend, fought Memorial Day traffic, and fed, cared for, and adventured the heck out of our munchkins. We returned home to happy boys with lots and lots of tales of special time with their grandparents. Thanks also to Grandpa for finding time in his busy weekend to cover yesterday afternoon so Noni and Papi could get home at a (relatively) decent hour. Although leaving the kids always brings with it a bit of guilt, once I return home, I recognize that these weekends benefit everyone. We get a weekend away to recharge and reconnect, and our boys get refreshed, revived parents plus the opportunity to create very special memories with their grandparents. We hope that Noni and Papi see some benefit too, and that we can twist their arms to do it again in the future. Until then, I promised my Ethan that I won't leave him for at least 100 days (his measurement of a really, really long time).
