Catching Up: Eggs and Maple Syrup

So before our amazing adventures in Florida (which already seem so very long ago), we had some (almost) equally amazing adventures closer to home.  There was, of course, that egg-dying, ham-eating, basket-hunting fun family holiday that fell early in April this year, before the snow had even had a chance to vacate our backyard.  Although, as an aside, look how variable April in New England can be! (and how much our munchkins have grown!)

Noni and Papi were in the house for egg dying this year; between Noni's use of the wax crayon and Papi's use of the wire egg turner, we had some mighty purty eggs

For the second year in a row, the Easter Bunny left a treasure hunt leading the boys to their baskets.  This is what they found at the top of the stairs Easter morning.  They loved it!

And the weekend before Easter, we headed over to Bridgton to help a very special grandpa ring in a very special birthday (65th!).  Tom's birthday party coincided with Maine Maple weekend, so we did a little of our own sugar shacking at Grandpa's in addition to visiting a more commercial operation on the way home Sunday morning.

The boys loved learning where their maple syrup comes from, and tasting the sap straight from the tree.  Grandpa boiled down a bit of syrup and brought it with him on Easter Sunday for us to try...mmmmmm!  I'm fairly certain that if the boys have anything to say about it, this will be a full-scale operation next spring.
