Getting Back into the Swing of Things

After a big week of first days for everyone except me (who, however, got to experience / guide everyone else's first day and was therefore appropriately exhausted), we've enjoyed a quiet weekend at home.  Ethan had his first soccer game yesterday, and Team T-Rex was actually quite impressive.  Fully anticipating a bunch of 5-year olds aimlessly swarming around the ball, I was surprised to see an organized game that actually looked a lot like...soccer!  Ethan had a couple of key shots and seemed to enjoy himself.  We did have to remind him to actually watch the game while on the bench, but at least we didn't have to remind him to play the game while on the field.  We celebrated Ethan's first game with a trip to Smiling Hill Farm for lunch and, of course, ice cream.
This morning, the boys and I participated in a local fun run/5k to benefit a scholarship fund created in memory of someone who lost his life during the 9/11 attacks.  This was our second year running, and I would love to make it an annual event.  The boys did great in their quarter mile fun run.  Ethan finished fourth in the under 8 bracket (although they didn't really keep track), and Adam rallied from an early wipeout/trampling to finish his lap (with a little help from Mom) at about the same time he finished his sobbing.  After snacks and goody bags and medals galore, the boys were my superb cheering section for the 5k.
And that was our weekend!  It's amazing how much shorter our weekends feel now that Ben and Ethan are on a 5-day schedule.  I'm glad that Adam and I have one more day to goof off tomorrow before real life begins again for me on Tuesday.

Oh, and as an addendum to my last post - Ethan's first day of kindergarten went just fine.  He was thrilled to see me when he got off the bus, but was also so excited to get back on for Day 2.  When I asked him about his day, he told me that the bus to school was really long ("like two hours!"), that kindergarten is very busy ("we just go and go and go, from one thing to the next to the next to the next..."), and that lunch is way too short (as evidenced by his nearly-full lunchbox on Day 1).  He learned his lesson, though, and returned with a much emptier lunchbox (and a much smaller appetite) on Day 2.
